The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) in marking the world sight day 2023 draws the world’s attention to the importance of eye care in the workplace with advocacy and sensitization visits to Employers on the need: to make eye health initiatives of ensuring that eye care is available, accessible and affordable to all employees.
In line with the renewed hope agenda of Mr President, His Excellency Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu The Registrar/CEO Dr Obinna Edwin Awiaka in his quest for the prevention of avoidable blindness, eradicate quackery and provide eyecare to all Nigerians initiated “The Run to end blindness awareness campaign and free eye screening” held on Saturday 14th October 2023 at Jabi Lake Park, Abuja, honourably flagged off by the Special Adviser to the President on Health: Dr Salma Annas Ibrahim in collaboration with our partners and sponsors as follows;

The Run to End Blindness awareness campaign recorded a massive turn out of residents and was truly a huge success with over 300 patients attended to: patients with minor cases were given medications and glasses while surgical cases were referred to Tulsi Chenrai Eye Foundation Hospitals for free eye operations. The 3km marathon saw a number of athletes raced through the streets of Abuja with cash prizes won by the first, second and third positions while others got consolation prizes with certificates of participation.
The Registrar/CEO enjoins all Nigerians both public and private, corporate and non-governmental Agencies to partner with the ODORBN as these promises to be a yearly event for World Sight Day celebration and free eye care services to all Nigerians, which shall be replicated in all the six geopolitical zones of the country in 2024.
