The Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN) CPD Portal was created as a response to facilitating online learning and the awarding of CPD credits for completed course(s). This web portal is in tandem with the Nigerian law that defines Optometry as the art and science of vision care. The scope of learning covers several Optometric practices including ocular examination, ocular and systemic pathologies, refraction, contact lenses, orthoptics, and general eye care.
Practitioners can leverage on the Online portal to earn the requisite credit units to renew their practice licenses.
On completion of training in any of the approved universities, the optometrist will be issued with a provisional license after swearing to an oath of professional practice administered by the Board Registrar during an induction ceremony. Thereafter he/she proceeds on a mandatory twelve (12) calendar months internship in a Board accredited optometry clinic (public or private). The internship training programme is a compulsory one (1)- year continuous training of fresh Optometrist.
Full Registration as an Optometrist is granted to a person only after the successful completion of the internship training programme.
On completion of training in any of the approved training Institutions for the Dispensing Opticianry programme, the Dispensing Optician will be issued with a provisional license after swearing to an oath of professional practice administered by the Board Registrar during an Orientation/ Oath taking ceremony. Thereafter he/she proceeds on a mandatory twelve (12) calendar months Supervised Ophthalmic Laboratory Experience (SOLE) in a Board accredited Optometry clinic (public or private), Dispensing Optical Laboratory, Surfacing Laboratory. The SOLE programme is a compulsory one (1)- year continuous training of fresh Dispensing Optician.
Full Registration as a Dispensing Optician is granted to a person only after the successful completion of the SOLE programme.
The Optometrist and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN) is the body statutorily empowered by an Act of Parliament (cap 09 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, formerly known as Decree No. 34 of December, 1989) to regulate the practice of the professions of Optometry and dispensing Opticianry In Nigeria.
