Optometrist Registration

Full Registration as an Optometrist

The Accepted minimum qualification for the purpose of registration as an Optometrist includes:

  • O.D. (Doctor of Optometry) 

After the completion of the Internship Training, the Optometrist seeking the full registration shall register on the portal with the following required documents:

  • Provisional license registration.
  • Completed Internship Evaluation Form
  • Completed Internship Personal Data Form
  • NOA membership certificate *
  • Log Book (1,2,last page, optional final page)
  • School (HOD) clearance  Letter
  • Clinic clearance letter
  • Statement of result
  • Board Dues (Remita Receipt)
  • NOA National Dues*
  • State NOA payments OR clearance letter *

Optometrist Internship Training

After provisional registration, an optometrist wishing to be fully registered must undergo a mandatory twelve (12) calendar months internship in a Board accredited optometry clinic (public or private). 

Requirement for Optical Trainee:

  • Prospective optical trainee must have been inducted into the Profession before proceeding for their optical training.
  • Prospective optical trainee must apply posting from the BOARD to their respective optical dispensary before commencing their optical training.
  • Their Supervisor(s) must be up to date with their license and must possess a minimum of 5years post-graduation experience.
  • The Optical dispensary or clinic they intend to carry out their optical training must be up to date with the board.
  • Optical trainees applying to government owned health centers/ hospitals must attach their letter of appointment with their application letter to the board for posting letter.

The Optometrist and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN) is the body statutorily empowered by an Act of Parliament (cap 09 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, formerly known as Decree No. 34 of December, 1989) to regulate the practice of the professions of Optometry and dispensing Opticianry In Nigeria.
