WHAT WE DO
Our Units

Legal Unit

The Unit offers legal advice to the Council and coordinates the investigation of alleged misconduct involving Optometrist and Dispensing Optician services providers and facility. It also coordinates the processing of relevant documents for consideration of the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria Disciplinary Tribunal during trial of Optometrist and dispensing optician  for alleged unethical practices.

It liaises with External Solicitors in preparation of statements of claims and/or statement of defense for the prosecution of litigation in which the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria is a party, and appears in a representative capacity in all cases involving the Board before any court in Nigeria. The Unit coordinates the drafting of legal documents and liaising with relevant Government institutions in perfecting all drafts into enforceable instruments, and reviews legal documents on behalf of the Board like MOUs, among others.

Procurement Unit

The Procurement Unit is one of the units that reports directly to the Registrar/CEO. The Procurement unit is responsible for all procurement activities of the Board. The Unit is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring value for fund (money) in addition to ensuring that the organization needs in terms of Goods, Works and Services are met. The Procurement Unit ensures transparency and timeliness in its procurement process while ensuring that due process are observed in accordance with the Procurement Act 2007.

Corporate Affairs Unit

The Corporate Affairs Unit of the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria is the official window of the internal and external public.  We provide a multiplicity of duties in the Board.  The Unit is the first port-of-call between the Registrar/CEO of the Agency that is responsible for the office of the Registrar and the public.  

  • We handle all the Secretarial documentation of the office of the Registrar/CEO, Board Meetings, and keeping of records of all activities in the Unit. 
  • We Liaise and communicate with all the Heads of Department and Unit Heads in the Headquarter and all the branches of the Agency on delegated duties. 
  • The Corporate Affairs Unit is responsible also for external relation with stakeholders (communicating with Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians, and all the Institutions of Optometry and Opticianry programs in Nigeria and outside Nigeria as delegated by the Registrar/CEO creating and communicating a favourable public image).
  • As the Corporate Affairs Unit of the Board, part of our responsibility is to promote the unique vision, mission, programs, and activities of the Agency as we carry out the assignments delegated by the Registrar/CEO and the general public.

Public Relations Unit

The PR Unit under the Registrar’s Office is responsible for creating, facilitating and maintaining a positive image for the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria by projecting the various programmes and activities through various media efforts. To this end the PR Unit works with various Departments and Registry Units to collate their various regulatory forays for the attention of the public to orchestrate desired image for the Registrar, Board and Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria.  It also coordinates communication with related Parastatals and Agencies on social issues – invitations to events, congratulations, condolences, etc.

ICT Unit

The Functions of the ICT Unit are:

  • Network Administration

The ICT Unit oversees the installation and maintenance of the computer network systems in the agency.

  • Security

ICT unit plans and provides the security of Agency data, systems, and network

  • Application Development/Management

The ICT Unit creates the applications for the agency that serve its core business needs. The right applications allow a business to be innovative, more productive, efficient, and to move ahead of its competitors

  • Company Website

The IT department is responsible for creating and maintaining the company’s website. The unit typically creates the codes/design and works with other departments to generate content and to test the site for usability.

  • Technical Support

The unit provides this service for all the users who need access to the company’s computer systems. This includes installing new software or hardware, repairing hardware that has become faulty, training staff in the use of new software, and troubleshooting problems with the system or with an individual’s computer.

  • Planning & Purchasing

Prepare ICT Services\Equipment needs list for the Agency and perform needed procurement tasks in conjunction with the procurement unit.

  • Enterprise Resource Planning/System Administration

Enterprise resource planning is all about linking the different functions of an organization, such as accounting, human resources, marketing, and sales, using software systems. These systems can help in operations as well as strategic decision making.

  • Communication

The ICT Unit allows the organization to achieve communication with the various stakeholders at very high speeds through multiple channels, such as: Email, Video Conferencing, Collaboration Software and Social Media.

  • Data Management

The ICT Unit oversees to Data Storage, Data Recovery, Database Management, Data Analysis (analyze & draw conclusions from data), and safeguard Agency data to prevent unauthorized access to it.

  • Continuous Process Improvement

The ICT unit sees to the improvement of processes and efficiency, to be compliant with the current technological trends.

  • The unit has aided the Online migration of the yearly board exam and continuous professional development (CPD)
  • The unit is working tirelessly to enforce paperless communication, automated registration processes for registered professionals, use of Collaboration software and video conferencing to save on time and logistics expenses which would have been incurred every time different teams needed to meet and work together.

Store Unit

Store is a place where quantity or supply of goods are kept for use as needed.

OUR MANDATE

  • Exercise general control over activities in the storehouse by overseeing the daily operations and make sure it runs smoothly and effectively.
  • Maintain receipts, records add issues.
  • Inventory control for restocking.
  • Ensure storehouse of the organization is kept neat, clean, tidy and well organized.
  • Stock the materials in proper manner in the appropriate location.
  • Maintenance of an automated supply inventory database.
  • Issuance of store receipts voucher on receipt of delivery note in conformity with the specification of the goods supplied.

Generally, the store unit manages, supervise and perform variety of tasks in ordering, receiving, storing, accounting, issuing and performing other related duties as required.

Audit Unit

Audit unit assesses the quality of internal control in optometrist and dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria. The unit is responsible for  examining and evaluating the Board’s financial records, verifying the physical asset and inventory of the board and also determining the level of compliance with laws, regulations, and policies. The unit then form an independent opinion on all the activities and make reports to the  Registrar.


The Optometrist and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN) is the body statutorily empowered by an Act of Parliament (cap 09 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, formerly known as Decree No. 34 of December, 1989) to regulate the practice of the professions of Optometry and dispensing Opticianry In Nigeria.
